2012 Triumph America Review

The cruiser for those who go their own way.

It’s got the low seat. It’s got the classic chromed up cruiser style. It’s got the sound, but the Triumph America offers a unique alternative among the sea of wannabe clones. Traditional British parallel-twin. Lightest in class. Great to ride. Grabs attention wherever it goes.

America’s distinctive 865cc parallel-twin offers a laid back riding experience to match the classic minimalist cruiser look.

The 2011 America’s new ergonomics puts the rider lower and closer to the controls, for a fuss free riding experience. At 250kg ready to go and a low 690mm seat height, the 2011 America is one of the lightest bikes and easiest bikes to ride in its class.
The chassis for the new America has also been updated with new wheels and tyres for improved handling and aesthetics.

TRIUMPH AMERICA

- Traditionally British 865cc parallel-twin powerplant
- Classic cruiser styling
- Wide range of official accessories available to create an individual look
- Standard two-year unlimited mileage warranty

The 865cc Triumph America offers the most accessible entry point into Triumph’s cruiser range, delivering an authentic cruising experience but with a distinctive Triumph twist to set it apart from the masses of ‘me too’ V-twin cruiser clones.

The America’s styling is pure classic laid back cruiser, with the 16” front and 15” rear cast alloy wheels sporting high walled tyres to complement the deeply valenced front mudguard, pulled back handlebars and feet forward controls for a traditional low and laid back cruiser look.

Low means a 690mm seat height and an easy to manage 250kg wet weight, fully fuelled and ready to ride. Triumph’s engineers have deliberately designed the America to appeal to a wide range of riders. Neat touches such as the easily accessible sidestand and friendly ergonomics mean that it’s no wonder the America appeals to a wide variety of riders looking for a cool looking yet fun and
easy to ride motorcycle.

Metallic Phantom Black or two-tone Caribbean Blue with Crystal White paint schemes give the America a timeless appeal and understated style, while liberal lashings of high quality chrome further enhance the America’s appeal and help deliver a beautifully balanced design.

And the twist? Triumph’s classic parallel-twin power plant provides a unique proposition in a sea of V-twins. This quintessentially British configuration sets the America apart from the competition and delivers a unique look and riding experience.

With a 270-degree firing order, the America delivers a healthy 61PS with a mellow soundtrack and connected feeling. And the air-cooled engine is totally modern too, with fuel injection for clean running and low maintenance.

A full range of genuine Triumph accessories are available for the America and include items such as quick release screens and sissy bars, panniers, a low seat option and a number of leather and chrome items for riders who want to cosmetically tune their cruiser.

With a 6-speed overdrive transmission these bikes have the long legs for all-day cruising.

NEW TRUNK FOR VICTORY CROSS COUNTRY/CROSS ROADS

Touring riders can put away their tools. The new Lock & Ride® Trunk from Pure Victory can be installed on a Cross Country or Cross Roads in seconds, and removed just as quickly - without tools.

To install a trunk, a rider simply aligns the trunk mounting legs with mounting points at the rear of the bike and snaps down the locking arm. The trunk's power cord connects easily to the bike's electrical system to power the taillight at the rear of the trunk lid, the audio speakers and the accessory power outlet inside the trunk. To remove the trunk, simply reverse the process. When the trunk is on the bike, a locking pin can be added for theft prevention and additional peace of mind.

• The trunk has more than enough room for two full-face helmets.
• The trunk lid seals securely, is lockable and provides the bike with a high-mounted taillight.
• The front face of the trunk has a comfortable, padded passenger backrest and dual audio speakers.
• Each 2011 Cross Country and Cross Roads comes with a spare lock cylinder so a trunk can be locked with the bike's ignition key.
• Trunk-related accessories available from Pure Victory include: Passenger Armrests, Trunk Luggage
Rack (mounts atop lid), and Trunk Liner

PROVEN OUTSTANDING RELIABILITY

Victory has a track record of consistently outstanding reliability and dependability, which has led to the industry's highest customer satisfaction ratings. This proven reliability, along with the new transmission design, allows Victory to recommend extended oil service intervals for 2011 drivetrains.

• The recommended oil change interval for 2011 models is every 5,000 miles (8,000 km).
• Less-frequent oil changes results in a lower cost of ownership.

NEW TRANSMISSION

The Victory drivetrain team scrutinized every component of the engine and transmission and fine-tuned the designs and performance of numerous parts. Approximately 40% of the drivetrain is new for 2011, with the transmission receiving so many improvements it is virtually a new transmission.

The changes: improved manufacturing efficiency and quality assurance; enhanced drivetrain's already-impressive reliability; improved engine performance; and, for riders, improved ridability and delivered a more appealing-sounding transmission.

• In terms of operating sound, selected modulation frequencies have been eliminated. This produces a more-appealing sound - consistently in each gear. In 4th and 6th gears in particular, gear whine has been reduced.
• Driveline lash has been reduced by 66%.
• "Neutral Assist" has been added to make it easier for a rider to shift into neutral when stopped. This will reduce the rider's effort, will reduce clutch wear and will lessen the performance demands on the oil.

ENHANCED INSTRUMENTATION

All cruisers now have instrumentation similar to that of the Victory Cross Roads, which provides a rider with a wealth of information in one, easy-to-read location. The new instrumentation includes:

• An analog speedometer, which may be set to show MPH or KPH.
• Blue backlighting.

oA large LCD that displays: Clock (time of day is viewable at all times), gear position, tachometer and diagnostic readouts for Victory dealership service technicians.

• The gauge face includes lights such as high-beam and neutral indicators and the oil warning light. Cruisers no longer have these indicator lights atop the triple clamps.
• The Cross Roads instrumentation also has an always-viewable fuel gauge.

CHASSIS CHANGES ACROSS THE LINEUP

All brake calipers, rotors, lower belt guards, and floorboards are black.

• All left- and right-hand switch cubes are black, as are the audio control switch block and cruise control switch block.
• The triple clamp is black on all models except the Vegas Jackpot (which retains its chrome triple), and the Victory Cross Roads (which retains its brushed finish).
• A new side stand on each model features an integrated hooked-end design for easy locating and easy control of the side stand.
• All cruiser exhausts have a larger outlet for improved sound quality and a lower exhaust note.

The new Toyota FT-86 II Concept makes its world debut at the 2011 Geneva motor show, giving the clearest indication yet as to the final design of Toyota's next sports car. It marks a return to the passion for driving that has inspired great Toyota cars of the past, starting with the legendary 2000 GT in the 1960s.

With its long, low bonnet, high wings and rear-set cabin, the Toyota FT-86 II Concept pays homage to Toyota's sports car history and is an entirely driver-oriented concept. It was created at Toyota's European design studio ED2, where its styling was dubbed 'functional beauty': its bold, sweeping form has been generated purely according to the constraints of function and aerodynamics.

The low, highly aerodynamic bodyshell is stretched tight over the engineering hard points, with the muscular bodywork rendered as compact as possible. The concept measures 4,235mm long, 1,795mm wide and 1,270mm high, with a long, 2,570mm wheelbase.

Rather than using a heavy, large displacement powertrain to secure performance, the FT-86 II returns to Toyota's sporting roots by combining a free-revving boxer petrol engine with a compact and lightweight six-speed manual transmission and a low centre of gravity to achieve the best possible power to weight ratio.

Both the powertrain and the driving position have been set as low and as far back as possible to optimise balance for maximum poise, high-speed stability and agility. With a front-engine/rear-wheel drive configuration, this gives the car lively, accessible performance that is easy to harness and enjoy.

The Toyota FT-86 II Concept is the latest stage in the development of a new, compact rear-wheel drive sports car that is being jointly developed by Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru). The new model will be launched in Europe in 2012.
