Making its debut at the 2011 Chicago Auto show, the newly refined Acura TL delivers fresh looks, improved performance and upgraded technology. Most apparent are the visual changes that incorporate new front and rear styling, but also present is a new Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission for improved performance and fuel economy, a revised interior and a host of technology upgrades.

"The 2012 Acura TL is refined, yet aggressive," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "Already known for its great performance, the enhanced TL has a sophisticated new look and an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission that will take performance to the next level."

The 2012 TL's refined new look includes a redesigned front bumper with improved aerodynamics, a revised grille, updated headlights and turn signals, a new fog light design and a shorter front overhang. At the rear, a new rear bumper incorporates a significantly repositioned license plate opening and smaller rear reflectors, while updated taillights and a thinner rear trunk edge trim add to a sophisticated new look.

To increase performance, a new Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission is applied on all Acura TL models with automatic transmission. In addition to incorporating engineering enhancements aimed at improving efficiency, a sport-minded double-kick-down feature lets the driver command a double downshift — such as from Fifth to Third gear. The Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system also creates a "blip" of the throttle to help match gear speeds while downshifting.

In addition, the transmission teams with a new multi-clutch torque converter that not only reduces heat build-up during operation, but also allows for lock-up activation during a much wider range of driving conditions — which helps generate improved fuel economy. As a result, city/highway fuel economy is now 20/29 mpg — an increase of 3 mpg in highway driving over the 2011 TL. To further improve operating efficiency, the Acura TL's standard 3.5L V-6 engine receives a host of friction-reduction technologies while a revised air inlet system provides cooler air for both the 3.5L and 3.7L engines.

For 2012, two distinct versions of Acura's performance luxury sedan remain: a 280 horsepower, front-wheel-drive TL along with a powerful 305 hp Acura TL paired with Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD™). The performance-minded 6MT model will continue to be offered in the 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD lineup, helping broaden the Acura TL's appeal among luxury performance sedan buyers.

Both the TL and TL SH-AWD™ models offer an available Technology Package which includes the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting™ and AcuraLink Real-Time Weather™, and an Acura/ELS Surround® 410-watt Premium Audio System. For 2012, the hard disk drive (HDD) based navigation system increases in size to 60 gigabytes, map coverage is more expansive, USB connection speed is faster, and the full VGA monitor is brighter with even richer colors. Also available is a new Advance Package that incorporates all-new ventilated front seats along with a new blind spot information (BSI) system that alerts the driver of other vehicles that are in close proximity.

Standard on the 2012 Acura TL are new 17x8-inch 7-spoke aluminum wheels with P245/50R17 all-season tires for confident year-round performance. The Acura TL SH-AWD® comes standard with new 18x8-inch 5-spoke aluminum wheels with low-profile P245/45R18 tires for more agile handling. Finally, when equipped with the available Advance Package, the Acura TL comes with 18x8-inch 5-spoke wheels while TL SH-AWD™ is fitted with 19x8-inch split five-spoke aluminum wheels with new performance minded P245/40R19 all-season tires.

Acura debuted the all-new Acura TSX V6 sports sedan at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. Scheduled to go on sale this summer, the 2010 Acura TSX V6 will be equipped with a powerful 3.5-liter engine, exclusive suspension tuning, larger diameter wheels and additional enhancements.

"The automotive market may be slowing down, but not Acura," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "With improved acceleration and handling, the new 280 horsepower V6 adds even more sport to the already sporty nature of the popular Acura TSX sports sedan."

Since its redesign last year, the TSX has shattered sales records to become one of Acura's best-selling sedans. As the entry point to the Acura brand, the four-cylinder TSX has won over customers with its nimble handling, agile driving feel and balanced performance. The V6 model adds a new level of power on top of these winning traits for a more sporty and spirited driving experience. The V6 will surely satisfy driving enthusiast's appetite for a fun-to-drive, yet refined sports sedan.

With the introduction of a V6 powered Acura TSX, Acura will fill a niche in its lineup between the four-cylinder TSX and the all-new TL performance luxury sedan. With the TL moving more upscale following its redesign in the 2009 model year, the Acura TSX V6 will be aimed squarely at youthful buyers who want a performance-oriented sports sedan in a more personal size.

Powertrain
A new Acura TSX powertrain choice means performance luxury buyers can enjoy a 280 horsepower 3.5L V6, with sophisticated VTEC® valvetrain control and a dual-stage induction system. For maximum performance and efficiency, the engine will be coupled to Acura's Sequential SportShift automatic transmission, with intelligent features such as Grade Logic Control and Shift Hold Control. If the driver desires, the Sequential SportShift transmission can also be operated manually, via steering-wheel mounted F1®-style paddle shifters.

Body/Chassis
The new Acura TSX model will feature a state-of-the-art, double-wishbone front and multilink rear suspension system to provide excellent ride, handling and control. To generate sportier handling, the V6 model will also use exclusive suspension tuning along with 18-inch split five-spoke aluminum wheels, fit with Michelin Pilot all-season tires. The larger wheels and tires will help distinguish this performance- minded TSX, as does the slightly revised front fascia and a V6 badge on the trunk.

A prototype of the provocative Acura ZDX luxury four-door sports coupemade its world debut at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. The production version of the dramatically styled prototype goes on-sale in the fall of 2009. The segment bending Acura ZDX Concept features stunning coupe-like styling with the added benefit of a commanding presence and flexible utility.

"The Acura ZDX is truly a luxury performance coupe - plus," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "The emotional coupe styling coupled with a luxurious and dramatic interior and surprising versatility, allows the ZDX to define its own segment and attract an entirely new customer."

The Acura ZDX Concept is designed to break new ground for Acura in the areas of provocative styling, contemporary luxury and meticulous refinement. With its sensuous curves, sharply raked roofline and bold fender flares, the Acura ZDX Concept blurs the distinction between coupe, sedan and sport utility vehicle. Clean, flowing lines start from the headlights and run the length of the car, accentuating the cars presence and grace. In keeping with the coupe-inspired styling, the rear door handles are cleverly concealed in the C-pillar. The all-glass tailgate opens wide to reveal a highly functional cargo space with integrated under-floor storage. The prototype is finished off with stylish dual chrome exhaust outlets and 9-spoke machined wheels fitted with 20-inch Michelin tires.

"From the very first sketch of the ZDX, I wanted to create an emotional vehicle that challenged conventional thinking of what a sports coupe should be," said Michelle Christensen, Acura ZDX exterior designer. "My goal was to create a strikingly beautiful exterior, and use that attraction to help draw you into the rich interior."

Inside, the Acura ZDX Concept exudes modern luxury while focusing on pampering the front passengers. The cabin is enveloped in leather, which gives the interior a luxurious and inviting feel. The hand-stitched leather dash and instrument panel sweep down to form a dual cockpit layout, creating a personal and intimate experience for the front seat occupants. The premium leather seats are highly bolstered to support the passengers during sporty driving and at the same time provide comfort during a long getaway. A black monochromatic center stack leads to the textured metallic center console, which complements the black and pearl white leather trim. The thick leather wrapped steering wheel provides ample grip and is framed by racing-inspired paddle shifters for the ultimate in driver control. The cabin is enclosed by a panoramic glass roof which runs the entire length of the vehicle, providing occupants with a breathtaking view of the world around them.

The production Acura ZDX will bring a new level of prestige and sophistication when it arrives at Acura dealerships in the fall, offering the latest advancements in performance, technology and safety. The all-new 2007 Acura RDX Entry Premium SUV, made its production debut at the New York Auto Show. RDX combines Acura's first-ever turbocharged engine with the breakthrough Super Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)), for sports sedan-like handling in a SUV package.

"The all-new RDX is an exciting entry to the Acura light truck lineup for 2007," said John Mendel, senior vice president, auto operations, "The RDX's innovative powertrain coupled with SH-AWD provides this SUV with excellent fuel economy and outstanding performance."

The RDX is aimed at high-energy urbanites that spend the work week in the confines of the city, and then decompress on the weekends by getting away from it all. Regardless of where they go, these drivers expect the ultimate in responsiveness, control and adaptability.

Built on a new global light truck platform, the RDX concept was first designed in California and then developed in Japan. Besides featuring precedent-setting engineering features including Acura's first turbocharged and intercooled engine and the first adaptation of a SH-AWD(TM) system to an SUV, the RDX also offers Acura's first standard 18-inch wheels and tires.

True to form for Acura, the RDX incorporates a class-leading array of sophisticated electronic technologies that are seamlessly integrated to keep its passengers informed, entertained and in touch. The RDX also introduces new safety technologies based on the fundamentals of Acura's "Safety Through Innovation" initiative.

As Acura's first Entry Premium SUV, the RDX was the focal point of the development of a special powertrain that would blend 4-cylinder efficiency and 6-cylinder power. The ideal solution came in the form of an innovative new variable flow turbo (VFT) that delivers an unusually broad powerband with little or no lag in throttle response. The RDX is equipped with an all-new 2.3-liter DOHC 16-valve in-line four-cylinder engine with i-VTEC valve control that combines Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) with Variable Timing Control (VTC). With the variable flow turbo working in concert with i-VTEC, the RDX delivers strong power and torque, excellent fuel economy and very low emissions.

Rated output for the RDX engine is 240 horsepower SAE net* at 6000 rpm. In terms of torque, the RDX has the highest output of any engine in the Acura lineup, with 260 lbs.-ft. of torque SAE net* at 4500 rpm. The RDX is expected to return an EPA-estimated 19/24** City/Highway mileage, while meeting strict CARB LEV-2 ULEV and EPA Tier-2 Bin-5 emissions standards.

A 5-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift is standard. The electronically controlled drive-by-wire throttle and transmission work together to execute shifts, resulting in exceptionally quick and smooth gear changes. The transmission can function as a conventional automatic transmission or, at the driver's option, can be shifted manually via steering-wheel-mounted paddles.

SH-AWD(TM) is standard in the RDX to maximize available traction while improving handling balance and responsiveness. SH-AWD(TM) is Acura's patented all-wheel drive system that distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear axles but also between the left and right rear wheels. The system's direct yaw control helps reduce understeer to enhance steering accuracy and add to total cornering power.

Responsive handling is further aided by fully independent front and rear suspensions. The MacPherson strut front and trailing arm-type multilink rear systems are tuned for compliant control, and assisted with front and rear anti-roll bars for flatter cornering. Standard Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA(R)) with traction control further enhances controllability and grip.

The RDX exterior styling further emphasizes the SUV's sporty athleticism. It has a taut, muscular presence with standard 18-inch wheels and tires that work together with large wheel arches, aggressively raked body sides, a steeply raked windscreen and a short rear overhang. A unique rear hatch, finished with a replaceable panel to reduce the cost of accident repair, allows the rear of the body to smoothly transition to the rear bumper. This permits a more custom look and also eases the act of loading and unloading cargo.

Inside the RDX, the front-seats feature a high "eye point" that provides a confident field of view. The 3-passenger rear seat has a 60/40 split-folding capability and, when folded flat, significantly expands the load area and increases the cargo volume to 60.6 cubic feet of storage. There are multiple interior storage compartments positioned throughout the interior, including a large (and lockable) dual-level center console located conveniently between the front seats that can securely accommodate a briefcase.

The RDX features an array of electronic features that set it apart from the competition. These include a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a Multi-Information Display (MID), and LED backlit gauges with progressive illumination. Also standard is an impressive 360-watt 7-speaker Acura Premium Sound System with a multi-format 6-disc changer, AM/FM tuner, XM(R) Satellite Radio, and the convenience of an MP3/auxiliary input jack for easily connecting audio devices such as an iPod.

Just one optional package is offered on the RDX. The Technology Package heightens the RDX's appeal to technology-savvy customers with a range of advanced features. The centerpiece is a 10-speaker Acura/ELS Surround(TM) Premium Sound System designed by legendary recording engineer Elliott Scheiner. When playing DVD-Audio discs (DVD-A), this advanced 410-watt system delivers eight discreet audio channels (instead of the usual two) to create an uncannily accurate listening experience. With its multi-format 6-disc DVD-A changer, AM/FM tuner and XM(R) Satellite Radio, the system is as versatile as it is powerful.

The Technology Package also includes several information and communications such as HandsFreeLink(TM) and the Acura Navigation system. HandFreeLink is a wireless telephone interface that is designed to work with many Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones (sold separately). In addition, the AcuraLink(TM) Satellite Communication System with Real Time Traffic allows for 2-way communication between Acura and the vehicle, providing customers with the latest information specific to their vehicle.

The Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition(TM) can display up-to-the-minute traffic information including flow, accidents, construction and weather conditions on freeways in 31 major metro areas (where available). When the transmission is placed in reverse, the Navigation screen displays the image from a rearview camera to make parking easier. In addition, the AcuraLink(TM) Satellite Communication System with Real Time Traffic allows for 2-way communication between Acura and the vehicle, providing customers with the latest information specific to their vehicle.

Technological leadership also extends to safety engineering. The RDX's Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(TM)) body structure substantially contributes to passenger safety. ACE(TM) distributes collision loads through the body structure, leaving the passenger cabin more intact for improved occupant protection. Specially designed frame members make the RDX more compatible with smaller vehicles in the event of a vehicle-to-vehicle frontal collision. Likewise, a specially engineered hood and other components help reduce the chances of pedestrian injury in the event of a collision with the vehicle.

Inside the RDX is a full complement of passive safety features. Key technologies include the latest generation of dual-stage, dual-threshold airbags for the driver and front passenger, plus side airbags for the driver and front passenger and side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor for all outboard occupants. Child-seat mounting systems, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), allow the quick and secure installation of a child seats.

The RDX will be assembled in Marysville, Ohio, on the same line as the Acura TL sedan. It is the first Acura light truck to come from the facility.

- The RSX Concept first made its debut at the 2001 SEMA show and is updated to reflect the significant changes made to the Acura RSX for 2005. The Concept RSX features a chassis that has been widened five inches compared to stock, with an aggressive body styling kit, fender flares, carbon fiber front and rear spoilers and HID headlights. It boasts racecar suspension tuning, large 19-inch "black chrome" wheels, prototype Michelin F1 tires and Brembo brakes. Inside, fully customized interior features carbon fiber accents, a race-style instrument panel and custom gauge cluster.

- Acura unveiled the TSX A-SPEC Concept at the 2005 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada. This extensively modified TSX is a unique project built to explore the next level of performance accessory possibilities for Acura's popular sedan.

Based on the TSX sport sedan, the one-of-a-kind A-SPEC Concept is aggressively styled with wide fenders, custom 19-inch wheels and Pirelli tires that combine to increase the track by 0.8 inches (20 mm). The front and rear fascias have been redesigned for improved ventilation and downforce. Air is directed under the car with two-part carbon-Kevlar underbody diffusers and the new rear bumper incorporates dual center-mounted exhaust pipes. On the trunk is a custom carbon-Kevlar rear spoiler. The side sills are extended and the headlights and taillights are revised to blend with the A-SPEC Concept's unique styling. Suspension changes include A-SPEC performance springs and shocks along with oversize Brembo brakes. These track-tuned pieces are designed to enhance the TSX's handling in demanding conditions. The custom exhaust and intake systems combine to increase horsepower and torque and give the TSX A-SPEC Concept thrilling engine and exhaust notes.

Inside, the TSX A-SPEC Concept boasts race-ready Recaro seats. The front and rear seats are upholstered in premium black leather with suede inserts. Aluminum accents on the dash, steering wheel and shifter combine with carbon-Kevlar panels on the doors and center console for a high-tech, purposeful look.

The Acura RL A-SPEC Concept vehicle made its debut today at the North American International Auto Show. Based on the all-new 2005 RL luxury performance sedan, this extensively modified concept is a design model to explore the next level of A-SPEC performance accessories for Acura's top-of-the-line sedan.

The RL A-SPEC Concept is approximately one inch wider than the production model with wide fender flares, restyled rocker panels and side sills accenting a solid, muscular look. While the production RL features a wide stance, the Concept RL's track has been widened by 30mm. The wider track combines with custom 20-inch alloy wheels, and high performance Michelin Pilot Sport 245/40 R20 tires, to give the RL an even more muscular appearance.

A bold, sloping hood ends in a redesigned front fascia that features a new bumper, an enhanced signature Acura grille and larger lower air intakes. In the rear, the trunk lid has been restyled with an integrated spoiler. A new rear bumper featuring pairs of dual, high-flow exhaust finishers has also been applied.

An A-SPEC high performance suspension package with track-tuned shocks and springs lowers the car by one inch and enhances the RL's handling precision. Brembo brake components on all four wheels feature 8-piston calipers and 15-inch drilled rotors to give the RL A-SPEC Concept enhanced stopping power.

Inside, the RL A-SPEC Concept features custom hand-stitched premium leather on the seats, instrument panel, and door panels combined with a two-tone Alcantara headliner, and blonde Birchwood accents for a decidedly Latin flare. A wood sport steering wheel and shift knob evoke a high performance, yet luxurious feel.

The 2001 NSX offers two mid-ship mounted distinct powertrains. On the heels of the successful launch of the 3.2 TL luxury performance sedan, Acura has introduced an all-new, completely redesigned 3.2 CL luxury performance coupe. Available in two distinct models -- the fully featured 3.2 CL and the high-performance 3.2 CL Type S -- the CL offers the best performance, luxury and value in its class.

"The CL is our hot, new entry into the competitive luxury performance coupe segment," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, Acura Division. "With invigorating performance, a long list of standard features and stylish good looks, the Acura CL will definitely stand out as the class-leader." In addition to being up to 30-percent more powerful than the car it replaces, the new CL grows in overall size by two inches in length and one-half an inch in width. The sleek body design echoes the stylish lines of classic Gran Turismo coupes of the automotive past along with styling cues from Acura's own lineage. The long sculpted hood and a short rear deck mark the key styling elements of this roomy 2+2 coupe. The signature Acura pentagram grille adorns the front of the CL while triangular tail lights mark a substantial and sporty rear design.

POWERTRAIN
The new CL coupe is offered exclusively with V-6 power and is available in two distinct versions of Acura's all-aluminum, 3.2-liter, 24-valve engine with the patented VTEC(TM) (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system. The 3.2 CL's V-6 engine produces 225 horsepower and is similar to the engine in the popular Acura 3.2 TL luxury performance sedan. The Type S was designed for high performance driving with class leading technology and power. Producing 260 horsepower, the Type S is the most powerful six-cylinder coupe in its class. To achieve its high output, the Type S incorporates several engine enhancements including a dual-stage induction system, low-restriction dual-outlet exhaust, larger diameter throttle body, increased compression ratio, special intake valves, camshafts and cylinder heads. These elements allow the Type S to achieve a broad torque curve providing 232 lb-ft of torque between 3500 and 5500 rpm. Both the 3.2 CL and Type S engines feature a direct ignition system with knock control which ensures a properly timed spark for optimal power and fuel efficiency at all engine speeds. In addition, platinum-tipped spark plugs are used in both engines allowing a 100,000 mile tune up interval. Both CL models are equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission with the Formula 1 race car-inspired Sequential SportShift system, allowing the driver to select gear changes manually, or operate as an automatic transmission. The 5-speed gearing provides quick acceleration while reducing engine rpm at cruising speed, resulting in increased fuel efficiency and less engine noise compared to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The CL achieves luxury and performance while balancing Acura's commitment to the environment, as both the 3.2 CL and Type S models will be Low Emission Vehicles (LEV). The California model 3.2 CL will be an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) with further reduced emissions.

BODY AND CHASSIS
To complement the performance capabilities of the powertrain, the CL's chassis has been engineered with a rigid unit body structure to provide extraordinary handling that rivals Europe's finest luxury performance coupes. Compared to the car it replaces, the new CL is 6-percent stronger in torsional rigidity and 23-percent stronger in bending rigidity resulting in a solid ride with less body flex.

This rigid platform serves as the foundation for the CL's four-wheel independent, double wishbone suspension with stabilizer bars and a shock tower bar. The Type S incorporates additional suspension enhancements, including firmer springs, increased damping rates and a larger rear stabilizer bar for even greater cornering capability. Both CL models have large diameter, 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS to maximize stopping power of the high-performance, V-rated, all season Michelin tires -- 205/60R16 on 3.2 CL; 215/50R17 on Type S.

INTERIOR
The world class driving experience is also reflected in the CL's interior, as this new coupe has been equipped with a comprehensive array of comfort and convenience features. Interior appointments include an impressive Acura/Bose(R) six-speaker music system with six-disc, in-dash CD changer, Automatic Climate Control System with micron air filtration, power moonroof and leather-trimmed seating surfaces with four individual bucket seats. Heated power front seats with power walk-in feature, keyless remote entry with driver's seat and side mirror memory, front center console with adjustable armrest, HomeLink(R) remote control system along with front and rear dual cupholders round out this list of standard features. To further enhance its sporty personality, the Types S receives exclusive perforated leather seats and steering wheel, metallic-faced instrument panel and a Type S-badged perforated leather shifter knob. Type S with an ebony colored interior also receives a unique dark wood grained trim on the center console and doors.

The sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, global positioning system (GPS) satellite-linked navigation system is the only factory option available on both the 3.2 CL and the Type S. A pioneer in the area of in-dash navigation systems in North America, Acura is the first and the only luxury automobile brand to offer a Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) mapping database, providing coverage of the continental United States on a single DVD. The DVD database has been programmed to include over 3.7 million points of interest, while a large 6-inch color LCD display with a matte-finish touch screen reduces glare and fingerprinting.

SAFETY
Acura technology extends to the area of vehicle safety with the CL's extensive list of standard safety features. Both CL models are equipped with standard Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights for excellent nighttime visibility, Antilock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS) along with driver and front passenger Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) air bags with dual threshold deployment and a dual stage inflation system for the passenger's air bag. Side air bags for the driver and front passenger are also standard and incorporate a sophisticated occupant size and position sensor system on the passenger's seat, allowing the control module to shut off the passenger's side air bag if a child or small adult is leaning into the deployment path of the air bag. The Type S also adds a unique Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system that orchestrates the throttle, injection and brakes to seamlessly integrate traction control, antilock braking and stability control systems. This innovation is designed to assist the driver in maintaining control during cornering, acceleration and sudden collision-avoidance maneuvers by applying brake force to the right or left front wheel as necessary and managing the throttle and injection systems.

MANUFACTURING
The new CL is the third Acura to be designed, engineered and assembled in the United States. Like its Acura 3.2 TL sedan sibling, the new CL is assembled at Honda of America's manufacturing facility in Marysville, Ohio with a high level of locally sourced parts.

On sale March 1st, 2000 through authorized Acura retailers, the all new CL will be priced aggressively against coupes from BMW and Mercedes Benz with a starting MSRP of $27,980 for the 3.2 CL and $30,330 for the 3.2 CL Type S. The Acura Division of American Honda introduced earlier this year the 1990 second-generation Integra sports sedans. The Integra line includes 3-door hatchback and all-new 4-door sedan body styles, as well as a new GS trim level for each.

The 1990 Integra has a new 1.8-liter DOHC fuel-injected engine, which produces 130 horsepower, 4-wheel double-wishbone suspension, a new, speed-sensitive variable-assist power steering system, and ergonomically designed interiors and controls. The new GS model features an Anti-Lock Braking (ALB) system -- a feature rarely found on automobiles in this price class.

The distinctive, wedge-shaped Integras were designed using the latest Computer-Aided Design (CAD) techniques and extensive wind tunnel testing to achieve rigid body structures and excellent aerodynamics. The 3-door achieves a coefficient of drag rating of 0.32, while the 4-door sedan is rated at 0.34.

Design features include slim roof pillars and sashless doors, for a contemporary "hardtop" look. The extensive use of glass results in over 320 degrees of outward visibility for the driver.

Powering the 1990 Integra is a new, 4-cylinder engine that benefits from technology developed through Honda Research and Development's championship-winning Formula 1 racing program. The all-aluminum engine displaces 1834 cc's (1.8 liters) and has dual overhead camshafts, 4-valves-per-cylinder and Programmed Fuel Injection. It develops 130 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 121 lbs.-ft. of torque at 5000 rpm.

The combustion chambers are a pentroof design and have centrally-located spark plugs for optimum flame propagation and thorough combustion. The 4-valve-per-cylinder configuration, combined with careful tuning of the intake and exhaust systems increases torque, especially in low and mid-range rpm. A 5-speed manual is standard equipment and features larger synchromesh gears for first and second gears, to better handle the engine's increased torque. A short throw shift lever provides crisp, precise feel.

An electronically-controlled 4-speed automatic transmission with driver-selectable sport mode is also available. Borrowing technology from the Acura Legend, this sport mode allows the transmission to shift at higher rpm points for more spirited driving.

The second-generation Integra utilizes a 4-wheel fully independent double-wishbone suspension. Handling and comfort are enhanced by front and rear stabilizer bars, new front nitrogen gas-pressurized shock absorbers and progressive-rate rear springs.

The rack-and-pinion steering employs a new, electronic, speed-sensitive variable power-assist system that provides a more linear transition between assist levels for more precise and responsive steering feel.

Braking is accomplished with standard 4-wheel disc brakes. Integra GS models include a new Anti-Lock Braking (ALB) system which uses sensors at each wheel to detect impending lockup. Once detected, the ALB system modulates hydraulic pressure to allow the wheels to continue rotating *ith no loss of braking power, while maintaining steering control.

Inside the new Integra is an ergonomically engineered interior. The instrument panel has been contoured into a wing shape which wraps slightly around the driver. Instrumentation is analog, with white-on-black dials. An adjustable steering column is standard on all Integra models, as is a digital quartz clock and a low-fuel warning light. Utility and cargo-carrying versatility are retained as both the 3- and 4-door sedans feature a 60/40 split rear seatback with access through to the large trunk area.

The front bucket seats of the new Integra have been designed for comfort and support. LS models feature a driver's adjustable lumbar support and GS models add adjustable side bolsters.

All Integra models are equipped with 2-point motorized passive front restraint system with an active lap belt and padded knee bolsters under the instrument panel. Outboard rear passengers are provided with 3-point shoulder and lap belts. In addition, all 4-door models are equipped with childproof rear door locks.

All Acura automobiles are covered by a 3-year, 36,000-mile limited warranty.

Design
Developed as a technological showcase for Mitsubishi Motors, the Concept-RA displays athletic sport coupe proportions wrapped in dynamic flowing lines that provide a powerful and compelling showpiece for the car's advanced, high technology features. Broad, muscular wheel arches house 21-inch wheels and lend graphic expression to the high degree of road control and tenacious grip afforded by the next generation S-AWC system. Meanwhile, an exposed engine cover highlights the presence of the car's high output, efficient, clean diesel engine design. The Concept-RA's inverted-slant nose and trapezoidal grille fascia reinforce Mitsubishi Motors' new design identity, albeit suitably revised to reflect the concept's sporty coupe attributes.

Concept-RA's deep red exterior hue graphically accentuates the coupe's fluid, muscular body lines, and offsets a matte black engine hood that helps impart the vehicle's strong mechanical flavor. The interior has been developed to show a fusion of tradition with leading-edge touches. The cockpit's wraparound control layout uses minimal visual instrumentation and optimizes the switch and control layout. This reduces the driver's physical and mental workload, allowing full concentration on driving. The interior also makes extensive use of fine-quality natural materials in a design that delivers the utmost control, confidence, and vehicle involvement to the driver.

Mechanical
The MITSUBISHI Concept-RA's Super-All Wheel Control driveline is a next generation all-wheel-drive system that adds Active Steering and Active Suspension control to the ACD, AYC, ASC, and Sport ABS components that comprise the highly capable system used on the 2008 Lancer Evolution. Concept RA's S-AWC system integrally manages these components to realize advanced levels of control over drive torque, steering input, vehicle roll, and braking at each wheel, thereby raising traction, cornering and vehicle stability levels. Such capability affords Concept-RA intuitive, on-demand vehicle behavior that faithfully reflects driver intent by reacting instantly, under a variety of driving conditions, from everyday use to emergency avoidance situations.

MITSUBISHI Concept-RA is powered by a new, high output, high-efficiency 2.2-liter 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel engine with MIVEC. This clean diesel's MIVEC system incorporates valve lift control with low and high-speed cam profiles actuating the intake valves. A Piezoelectric injector, common-rail direct fuel injection system allows the engine to use of a lower static compression ratio. The new diesel showcases a VD/VG (Variable Diffuser / Variable Geometry) turbocharger whose internal vanes can control airflow over the turbine and compressor surfaces to produce optimum boost characteristics at all times. The efficient, low emissions diesel unit delivers a maximum output of 201 hp (150 kW) and maximum torque of 310 ft. lbs. (42.8 kg-m). For compliance with Tier 2 Bin 5 emission regulations in the United States, the clean diesel powerplant relies on a new catalytic converter system that combines a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), NOx trap catalyst (NTC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) technologies.

In an effort to reduce vehicle weight to improve fuel economy, vehicle performance and safety, MITSUBISHI Concept-RA features a new, rigid body structure using an aluminum space frame made from extruded aluminum sections and die-cast aluminum components. In addition, the engine hood, fenders and other outer panels made from lightweight, impact-resistant and easily recyclable plastic resin.

One of the core concepts for the new Mitsubishi CUV is a striking new design language known as "compact dynamism", providing a functionally vibrant look that uses proper, flowing aerodynamics to maximize visual impact and fuel efficiency. At the 2010 New York International Auto Show, Mitsubishi Motors expanded the Outlander family lineup with the debut of an all-new crossover utility vehicle (CUV). Designed from the bottom up with a striking design and rigid, lightweight body, the smart-sized crossover combines fuel efficiency with stylish and feature-rich premium performance. Using lightweight, dent-resistant plastic front fender body panels, regenerative braking and enhanced class-leading aerodynamics, engineers have brought estimated highway fuel economy into the 31mpg range. Boosting the new crossover's list of premium features are such standard technologies as Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Electric Power Steering (EPS), a comprehensive seven-airbag safety system, and a cutting edge, high-contrast LCD instrument display. Active and stylish buyers will also appreciate the available LED-accented Panoramic Glass Roof, 710W nine-speaker Rockford Fosgate audio system and FUSE Hands-free Link system.

Two trims will be offered in the U.S. market for 2010: the budget-minded ES with a standard 5-speed manual transmission or the premium SE with a standard sportronic 6-speed CVT with magnesium-alloy paddle shifters. Standard for all models is a fuel efficient, 148hp MIVEC-equipped 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. A CVT transmission is available on ES trim and electronically controlled All-Wheel Control (AWC) is available on SE models.

BOLD SIGNATURE DESIGN
One of the core concepts for the new Mitsubishi CUV is a striking new design language known as "compact dynamism", providing a functionally vibrant look that uses proper, flowing aerodynamics to maximize visual impact and fuel efficiency. Featuring Mitsubishi's distinctive front "jet fighter" grille treatment, the clean and refreshing body lines are both emotionally stirring and high grade. By merging the Outlander's driving position and high-impact SUV design with the vigor of a smaller package, designers have created a cutting-edge entry level CUV that fits a broad range of lifestyles.

The new Mitsubishi CUV also features smoothly refined aerodynamics and a class-leading 0.33 coefficient of drag, beating the Mazda CX7 (0.34), Hyundai Tuscon (0.37), and Subaru Forester (0.38). Special steps were taken during the design process, resulting in a wind tunnel tested front face, sloping sides, and gently curving roof. With a lower coefficient of drag, the vehicle's slippery shape is able to cut through air with less effort, increasing both fuel economy and acceleration.

A wide range of eight body colors is available, including new exterior paint options Mercury Gray and Laguna Blue. The ES trim features standard high-rigidity, lightweight 16-in. wheels, available in either steel or aluminum alloy. For those looking for an even sportier look, the SE models include 18-inch alloy wheels and fog lights with chrome bezels. Owners can personalize that exterior with an array of accessories including an optional Exterior Sport Package featuring an alloy fuel door, tailgate spoiler, front skid plate, rear diffuser garnish, and front corner extensions.

Accenting the CUV's exterior treatment and functionality are the addition of LED rear combination taillights on both models and Super wide range High Intensity Discharge (S-HID) headlamps on SE models. With 35% greater light output than standard HID headlamps and a wide coverage beam, S-HID headlamps provide extra visibility and security when driving on dark roads.

SMART-SIZED PACKAGING
In essence the Outlander's "little brother", this entry-level crossover merges the Outlander family's impressive real world capability with a smaller, more maneuverable urban package. Designed to fit with a wide range of active lifestyles, the vehicle features the easy entry, exit, and turning radius of a smaller vehicle yet also the higher sightline and interior volume of a CUV. Seeking to create a dynamic new shape without compromising interior space, designers came up with a spacious five-passenger body that is 14.6-inches shorter than the Outlander. Compared to the Lancer passenger car, the new Mitsubishi CUV features a visual reference point that is almost 5-inches taller.

The entry-level CUV is also more agile and maneuverable than its competitors, featuring an independent suspension design and dynamic shape that leads to easier parking and driving. At just 34.8-ft., its turning circle is smaller than the Ford Escape (36.7-ft.), Nissan Rogue (37.4-ft.), and Honda CR-V (37.8-ft.).

The new crossover's dynamic and compact design is also lightweight at just 3,042-lb. for the ES 5-speed manual transmission model. This reduction in weight was achieved through the use of thinner high-strength steel in the hood, tailgate, and doors, recycled plastic front fenders, and new interior materials. Just a few examples of the design team's attention to detail include changing the handle lock body from zinc to magnesium and using less door trim. Compared to the Hyundai Tucson's 3,179-lb., Nissan Rogue's 3,281-lb. (with roof rails), and Mazda CX7's 3,496-lb., Mitsubishi's new CUV's lower curb weight allows it to deliver better fuel economy and better handling.

SMART PERFORMANCE
All models come standard with a MIVEC-equipped 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 148hp at 6,000rpm and 145lb-ft of torque at 4,200rpm. Partial Zero-Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) models produce 143hp at 6,000rpm and 143lb-ft of torque at 4,200rpm. In order to reduce weight, the engine block is cast out of lightweight aluminum and MIVEC variable valve timing technology is used to improve both engine output and efficiency.

Paired with the 2.0-liter engine in ES models is a 5-speed manual transmission or a steering column-mounted paddle shift 6-step Sportronic CVT available. SE trims come standard with the fuel economy-optimized CVT transmission. Mitsubishi engineers have spent countless development hours optimizing the CVT transmission's shift patterns and gear ratios, as well as reducing friction within its hydraulic oil control for greater fuel economy. To enhance the driving experience, magnesium alloy paddle shifters are mounted just behind the steering wheel, allowing the driver to switch between automatic and manual shifting modes without moving their hands. The CVT's manual gear shifting Sport mode can be selected by either pulling the paddle shifter while the lever is in "D" or by selecting Sport mode with the shift lever. After Sport mode is activated, the driver can shift up or down using the paddle shifters. Pulling the right paddle shifter for at least two seconds will deactivate Sport mode.

FUEL ECONOMY INNOVATIONS
All models are equipped with revolutionary new lightweight and dent resistant plastic front fenders. Made from recycled materials, the plastic body panels contribute to a lower curb weight and increased fuel efficiency. Reducing friction and drag with the road surface also helps increase fuel economy and the new crossover comes specifically equipped with tires with a low rolling resistance coefficient. An Electric Power Steering (EPS) system has also been added to eliminate the parasitic engine drag found in conventional hydraulic power steering systems, freeing up engine efficiency and increasing fuel economy.

In order to reduce fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions, the highly efficient engine is paired with a "smart" alternator and regenerative braking system. Recharging the onboard batteries using friction energy during braking, the system detects battery-charging conditions and utilizes the unique alternator to adjust voltage based on the vehicle load. Combined with the recycled body panels, class-leading aerodynamics, EPS, low curb weight, and efficient engine, the braking system helps push the new Mitsubishi CUV into the 31mpg range on the highway.

FUN TO DRIVE
With its low curb weight, compact mobility, and available electronically controlled AWC, the compact crossover also features a fun-to-drive handling balance that resonates with active Mitsubishi CUV buyers. Designed to be nimble and swift both on-road and off-road, the vehicle combines outstanding ground clearance with a tuned MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension design. Lightweight suspension pieces and front and rear swaybars are just a few elements of a suspension that has been tuned for better agility, roll control, and ride comfort. Four-wheel independent gas-charged shock absorbers and coil springs are used at all four corners.

Standard on all models are the driver assist aids Active Stability Control (ASC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA). Making for a more controlled and pleasant driving experience through all situations, ASC helps ensure stability during slippery driving conditions and maintains control after sudden driving inputs. ASC also features traction control to prevent wheel spin, ensuring worry-free take-offs and increased grip on slippery roads. Hill Start Assist uses front and rear gravity sensors to detect steep hills or gradients and applies brake pressure to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards, making for easier starts.

ALL-WHEEL CONTROL (AWC)
Building upon Mitsubishi's reputation in off-road performance, the SE features an available electronically controlled All-Wheel Control (AWC) 4WD system. The AWC system comes with the same capable "drive anywhere" functionality on other Mitsubishi vehicles the AWC provides increased handling, traction, and stability during any driving or weather situation. The compact design of the AWC system also calls for low viscosity transfer case oil for reduced friction and is capable of being switched between 2WD and 4WD modes, optimizing fuel efficiency.

The new crossover's AWC system also features a driver control knob, conveniently located in the center console, to adjust the electronically controlled coupling. With selectable fuel-efficient 2WD, capable 4WD Auto and rough surface 4WD Lock modes, AWC allows the driver to maximize fuel economy and traction at all times and over all surfaces.

FRESH AND HIGH-GRADE INTERIOR
Showcasing new premium materials, the interior is designed for sporty functionality and possesses a look previously found only in more expensive SUVs. From the first press of the One-touch Start System (OSS), standard on SE models, the new crossover offers the driver a modern experience. Highlighting the driver's experience is a first-in-class full color, high contrast LCD instrument display meter, accented with bold meter rings, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob. The instrument display also features an ECO driver indicator light, which signals when the vehicle is driven in a fuel-efficient manner. Covering the dashboard surfaces and extending to the door trim is a stylish, grained soft padding that gives a premium look and feel.

From its 60/40 split-folding rear seats to its spacious luggage area and armrest pass-through, the compact crossover is designed for interior space and functionality. Available on SE models with the Premium Package is the striking and fresh Panoramic Glass Roof with LED ambient lighting. Almost 20% wider and 219% longer than a typical sunroof, the Panoramic Glass Roof offers a spacious view of the surrounding skies and offers rear seat occupants a new feeling of greater interior space. Adding modern styling cues, LED lighting within the Panoramic Glass Roof provides an ambient accent to the cabin at night.

ADVANCED SAFETY FEATURES
From the chassis design on up, the new Mitsubishi CUV was created with safety in mind. Based on the Outlander structure, which has received the highest NCAP safety rating for collision-worthiness, the new crossover uses the same Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body design. This improves impact safety from all directions by utilizing a high rigidity body and crush zones which progressively crumble to absorb collision energy. The windshield has been given a wide glass area and high eye point for increased visibility and its lower base designed with the hood to reduce injury to pedestrians. Key structural areas on the chassis also direct energy away from the cabin and occupants while front and side members feature crush box front sections, which help reduce the cost of body repairs after minor incidents.

Another by-product of a rigid structure is increased stability and ride comfort. To further reduce cabin noise and vibration, the crossover's pillars have been foam filled for strength and the engine bay fitted with sound absorption material. Triple-sealing the side sills and double-sealing the door surrounds further improve sound insulation.

Keeping occupants safe inside during collisions is a comprehensive seven-airbag supplementary restraint system, which includes side, curtain, and a driver's knee airbag. Not a feature commonly found in this class, the driver's knee airbag controls posture and prevents injury to the legs during a frontal collision. The CUV's seats have been optimized to reduce whiplash and the front seats feature pretensioners that secure occupants during collisions and force-limiters that gently release to reduce the risk of injury.

FUSE HANDS-FREE LINK SYSTEM
Offering greater convenience and reduced distractions, the FUSE Hands-free Link System combines advanced voice-recognition capabilities with Bluetooth 2.0 enabled hands-free calling and audio playback. With the FUSE system, drivers can experience new levels of entertainment convenience while still retaining the capability to focus fully on the road. Automatic phonebook transfer and multiple phone support are both elements of the FUSE Hands-free Link System, as well as control of the SE model's optional navigation system, which is equipped with a 40GB hard disk drive for quick point-of-interest lookup. Full iPod and USB music device charging and playback are featured as well for portable music compatibility.

PREMIUM ELECTRONICS
The new crossover features a variety of electronic accessory options. These additional features solidify the CUV's already refined and rich driving experience. SE models include a number of convenience features that would normally be found only in more expensive offerings such as standard automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers and the keyless FAST-key passive entry system with push-button, One-Touch Start/Stop (OSS). Also available on SE models, the optional 40GB hard disk drive navigation system provides accurate mapping and lifetime real-time traffic updates with its 7-inch LCD display and doubles as a music server. The optional Rockford Fosgate in-car entertainment system has a full 710 watts of power and nine speakers for greater sound detail and quality.

PERSONALIZED ACCESSORIES

Realizing the desire of many hip and stylish urban buyers to customize their crossover, Mitsubishi has announced a number of optional customization packages. The Exterior Sport Package includes a large tailgate spoiler, front corner extensions, rear diffuser garnish, front skid plate, and alloy fuel door. The Protection Package offers a scuff plate cover, rear bumper plate, and front and rear mudguards. The Interior Package features a chromed Piano Black panel garnish and gearshift panel, and a black leather and aluminum CVT shift knob. The Illumination Package includes blue LED floor illumination lighting for the driver and front passenger, and a blue LED tailgate light. Also available is the Cargo Package, which includes a cargo mat, tonneau cover, and rear cargo net. With so many options and customization choices, Mitsubishi's all-new crossover is designed to fit with nearly any owner and active lifestyle.

Ahead of its official global unveiling on 4th March at the Geneva Motor Show, Mitsubishi Motors now reveals further images of the Prototype-S - born from the same gene pool as the original 2005 Concept-Sportback.

Jet Fighter Aggression

The prototype remains close to its original inspiration, and closely previews the forthcoming Lancer Sportback.

At the front, it uses a variation of Lancer's trademark "Jet Fighter" grille featuring a full matt black finish, mesh inserts and chrome surround. Other distinguishing features include a Lancer Evolution X style bonnet, Prototype-S specific headlamps and 19" five-spoke alloy wheels.

At the rear, Prototype-S follows the same design theme explored with Concept-Sportback with a very fast lift gate finished by Sportback's trademark colour-keyed roof spoiler. Its elongated rear combination lamps widen the stance of the car as they wrap around the rear wings.

Interior Flair

Inside, Prototype-S displays a very continental flair with its twin-hood meters, the black suede finish of the upper dashboard & door panels and the light brown-coloured leather selected for its upholstery, in a mix of plain, perforated and weaved finish.

ABOUT LOTUS

Lotus Cars is a British manufacturer of sports and racing cars based at the former site of RAF Hethel, a World War II airfield in Norfolk. The company designs and builds race and production automobiles of light weight and high handling characteristics.

Lotus is currently owned by Proton who took over after the bankruptcy of former owner Bugatti in 1994.

LOTUS HISTORY

The company was formed as Lotus Engineering Ltd. by engineer Colin Chapman, a graduate of University College, London, in 1952. The first factory was in old stables behind the Railway Hotel in Hornsey, North London. Team Lotus, which was split off from Lotus Engineering in 1954, was active and competitive in Formula One racing from 1958 to 1994. The Lotus Group of Companies was formed in 1959. This was made up of Lotus Cars Limited and Lotus Components Limited which focused on road cars and customer competition car production respectively. Lotus Components Limited became Lotus Racing Limited in 1971 but the newly renamed entity ceased operation in the same year.

The company moved to a purpose built factory at Cheshunt in 1959 and since 1966 the company has occupied a modern factory and road test facility at Hethel, near Wymondham. This site is the former RAF Hethel base and the test track uses sections of the old runway.

Chapman died of a heart attack in 1982 at the age of 54, having begun life an innkeeper's son and ended a multi-millionaire industrialist in post-war Britain. The car maker built tens of thousands of successful racing and road cars and won the Formula One World Championship seven times. At the time of his death he was linked with the DeLorean scandal over the use of government subsidies for the production of the DeLorean DMC-12 for which Lotus had designed the chassis.

In 1986, the company was bought by General Motors. On 27 August 1993, GM sold the company, for £30 million, to A.C.B.N. Holdings S.A. of Luxembourg, a company controlled by Italian businessman Romano Artioli, who also owned Bugatti Automobili SpA. In 1996, a majority share in Lotus was sold to Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Bhd (Proton), a Malaysian car company listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.

The company also acts as an engineering consultancy, providing engineering development—particularly of suspension—for other car manufacturers. The lesser known Powertrain department is responsible for the design and development of the 4-cylinder Ecotec engine found in many of GM's Vauxhall, Opel, Saab, Chevrolet and Saturn cars. Today, the current Lotus Elise and Exige models use the 1.8L VVTL-i I4 from Toyota's late Celica GT-S and the Matrix XRS.

The company is organised as Group Lotus, which is divided into Lotus Cars and Lotus Engineering.

Michael Kimberley took over as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Company and its Group from May 2006. He currently chairs the Executive Committee of Lotus Group International Limited ("LGIL") established in February 2006, with Syed Zainal Abidin (Managing Director of Proton Holdings Berhad) and Badrul Feisal (non-executive director of Proton Holdings Berhad). LGIL is the holding company of Lotus Group Plc.

Kimberley retired as CEO on 17 July 2009 and was replaced as CEO by Dany T Bahar on 1 October 2009. Bahar was formerly Senior Vice President, Commercial & Brand for Ferrari SpA where he was responsible for worldwide road car sales and after sales business, overall road car and F1 marketing activities, licensing, and merchandising business.

Daihatsu is offering customers extra value from its limited-edition Daihatsu Terios Kiri which is being restricted to only 250 cars.

Based on the Terios 1.5 S, the 'Kiri' adds unique metallic green paint, roof rails, special five-spoke 16 x 6 ins alloy wheels with 215/65 R16 tyres, a hard spare wheel cover, leather-covered steering wheel, front fog lamps and special 'Kiri' graphics.

Despite the extra equipment, the Daihatsu Terios Kiri costs just £13,895 on-the-road compared to the £12,995 OTR for the Terios 1.5 S.

Powered by a sprightly 1.5 litre petrol engine, the Terios 'Kiri' returns 40.4 mpg on the Extra Urban Cycle and boasts low emissions of 185 g/km meaning the Road Fund Licence is only £170 per annum.

The award-winning Terios range has a high standard specification which includes air-conditioning, power-steering, ABS with EBD and full-time four-wheel drive with electronic centre diff-lock.

Also standard on the Terios are driver, passenger and side airbags, radio/CD player, four electric windows and even reverse parking sensors.

The Daihatsu Terios was voted a '4x4 Of The Year' winner for the second year running by 4x4 Magazine. It now holds the title of: 'Budget Class Winner - 2008'.

All Daihatsus now come with five years' unlimited mileage warranty plus five years' roadside assistance. The offer runs until the end of the year when it will be reviewed.

HUSQVARNA motorcycles

Husqvarna Motorcycles, a subsidiary of BMW, is a company manufacturing motocross, enduro and supermoto motorcycles. The company began producing motorcycles in 1903 at Huskvarna, Sweden as a branch of the Husqvarna armament firm which had supplied the Swedish army with rifles since 1689.

History

As with many motorcycle manufacturers, Husqvarna first began producing bicycles in the late 19th century. In 1903, they made the jump to motorcycle manufacturing. In 1920, Husqvarna established its own engine factory and the first engine to be designed was a 550 cc four-stroke 50-degree side-valve V-twin engine, similar to those made by companies like Harley-Davidson and Indian. Although they once made motorcycles for street use, and raced at road circuits such as the Isle of Man TT prior to World War II, they are more well known for producing world championship winning motocross and enduro bikes. In the 1960s, their lightweight, two-stroke engined off-road bikes helped make the once dominant British four-stroke motorcycles obsolete. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s they were a dominant force in the motocross world, winning 14 Motocross world championships in the 125 cc, 250 cc and 500 cc divisions and 24 enduro world championships.

In 1987, the Husqvarna motorcycle division (not the other arms of the brand such as chainsaw production) was sold to Italian motorcycle manufacturer Cagiva and became part of MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. The motorcycles, widely known as "Huskies"/ "Husky", are now produced in Varese. Husqvarna produces a diverse range of motocross, enduro and supermoto machines using their own two-stroke or four-stroke engines, ranging in capacity from 125 cc to 576 cc. Racing continues to be important to Husqvarna, competing in world enduro and world supermoto championships. Gerald Delepine, riding a Husqvarna SMR660, became supermoto world champion in 2005. In 2008, Adrien Chareyre took the title, riding an SM530RR.

In July 2007, Husqvarna was purchased by BMW for a reported 93 million euros. BMW Motorrad plans to continue operating Husqvarna Motorcycles as a separate enterprise. All development, sales and production activities, as well as the current workforce, have remained in place at its present location at Varese.

INDIAN motorcycles

Indian motorcycles were manufactured from 1901 to 1953 by a company in Springfield, Massachusetts initially known as the Hendee Manufacturing Company but which was renamed the Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company in 1928. The Indian factory team took the first three places in the 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. During the 1910s Indian became the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. Indians most popular models were the Scout, made from 1920 to 1946, and the Chief, made from 1922 to 1953. The Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company went bankrupt in 1953.

Between 1953 and the early 1970s, different organizations imported motorcycles into the United States and applied the Indian logo to them, with varying degrees of legitimacy. The rights to the Indian marque were reconciled in the late 1990s and were acquired by Indian Motorcycle Company of America, which began building new Indian motorcycles in Gilroy, California in 1999. The Indian Motorcycle Company of America went bankrupt and ceased production in 2003.

Rights to the Indian marque were acquired by the Indian Motorcycle Company of Kings Mountain, North Carolina in 2006. The concern has since begun production of the new Indian motorcycle.

Hyosung Group is a Korean industrial conglomerate (chaebol), founded in 1957. It operates in various fields, including the chemical industry, industrial machinery, IT, trade, and construction. It is known in Korea mostly for high-end apartments and automatic teller machines. Its CEO is S.R. Cho.

Founded in 1978 as a division of the Hyosung Group of industries, Hyosung began producing Japanese Suzuki motorcycle designs under license for the South Korean market in Changwon, South Korea in 1979. In 1986, they established their own research and development center in Hamamatsu, Japan, and the next year, they began mass production of their own designs. They were the official motorcycle supplier for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. In 2003, Hyosung Motors & Machinery Inc. was spun off from the Hyosung Group to become its own corporate entity. In June 2007, Hyosung Motors Division was acquired by Korean company S&T Group (Science and Technology), and the name changed to S&T Motors.

Recently, they have expanded from their traditional business of simple and efficient bikes for commuting into the highly competitive recreational market. This includes adding models with larger engine displacement, up to 650cc (with 1000cc models planned); and expanding into developed markets such as Australia, Northern Europe, and the United States.

MV AGUSTA Motorcycle

MV Agusta is a motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1945 near Milan in Cascina Costa, Italy. The company began as an offshoot of the Agusta aviation company which was formed by Count Giovanni Agusta in 1923. The Count died in 1927, leaving the company in the hands of his wife and sons, Domenico, Vincenzo, Mario and Corrado. Count Vincenzo Agusta together with his brother Domenico formed MV Agusta (the MV stood for Meccanica Verghera) at the end of the Second World War as a means to save the jobs of employees of the Agusta firm and also to fill the post-war need for cheap, efficient transportation. The company manufactured small-displacement, Café racer style motorcycles (mostly 125 to 150 cc) through the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1960s small motorcycle sales declined, and MV started producing larger displacement cycles in more limited quantities. A 250 cc, and later a 350 cc twin were produced, and a 600 cc four-cylinder evolved into a 750 cc which is still extremely valuable today. History Count Vincenzo and Domenico Agusta had a passion for mechanical workings and for motorcycle racing. Much like Enzo Ferrari, they produced and sold motorcycles almost exculsively to fund their racing efforts. They were determined to have the best Grand Prix motorcycle racing team in the world and spared no expense on their passion. MV Agusta produced their first prototype, called "Vespa 98", in 1945. After learning that the name had already been registered by Piaggio for its Vespa motorscooter, it was referred to simply by the number “98”. In 1948, the company built a 125 cc two-stroke single and entered Franco Bertoni in the Italian Grand Prix. Bertoni won the event held in Monza and instantly put the new motorcycle manufacturer on the map. In 1949 season, the 125 cc or Ultra light weight class gained new prestige. More motorcycle manufacturers were competing in the inaugural World Championships that were held in Switzerland, Holland and Italy. The Mondial 125 cc DOHC design dominated the 1949 season. The MV riders placed 9th and 10th in the final standings. In 1950, Arturo Magni and Piero Remor joined the company after working with Gilera. Magni was the chief mechanic and Remor was chief designer [1]. The 1950 season and 1951 season were development years, as the company adopted the 125 Dohc four-stroke engine. Racing efforts only produced a fifth place finish at the Dutch TT in 1950. The 1951, results were only slightly better. The 1952 season saw the introduction of telescopic forks, full width alloy brake hubs and a sleek fuel tank on the 125 race bike. Power was 15 bhp (11 kW) @ 10800 rpm. Britain's Cecil Sandford piloted the new MV 125 to a 1952 Isle of Man TT victory and went on to win MV Agusta's first world championship. With the success of the 1952 season, independent or “privateer” riders could now purchase a “catalog” version of the 125 Dohc, now available through the company. The Sport Competizione racer had many of the same features as the factory bike. These included a multi-plate clutch, gear-driven oil pump, Dell'Orto 27mm SS1 carburetor and remote float chamber. The bike was nick-named “The Boy Racer”. In 1953 the race engineers adopted the Earl-type forks to help with handling problems on the works racers. The 1953 season saw the introduction of the 350 Four. MV’s racing efforts now included the 500 cc, 350 cc and 125 cc class. The mid 1950s saw the introduction of the 175 cc class. MV Agusta produced the 175 CSS for street use and also developed a 175 cc production racer for privateer racing. The 175 cc was very popular in Britain in the mid 1950s. Racers like, Micheal O’Rourke, Derek Minter and Bob Keeler raced the 175 and 125 Sport Competizione around Europe with a great deal of success. The marketing strategy of “race it on Sunday , sell it on Monday” was employed. For racing, early MV racing engines had the right side casting removed for instant access to the gear box. After the 1957 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season, the Italian motorcycle manufacturers Gilera, Moto Guzzi and Mondial, jointly agreed to withdraw from Grand Prix competition, citing escalating costs and diminishing motorcycle sales as a reason. Count Agusta originally agreed to withdraw, but then had second thoughts. MV Agusta would go on to dominate Grand Prix racing, winning 17 consecutive 500 cc world championships. Count Agusta's competitive nature usually saw him hire some of the best riders of the time, namely Carlo Ubbiali, John Surtees, Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini, Phil Read, among others, and having the best engineers, most notably Arturo Magni. The three and four cylinder race bikes were known for their excellent road handling. The fire-engine red racing machines became a hallmark of Grand Prix racing in the 1960s and early 1970s. With the death of Count Domenico Agusta in 1971, the company lost its guiding force. The company won their last Grand Prix in 1976, and by the 1980 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season, they were out of racing. Shortly thereafter, they ceased motorcycle production. Between 1948 and 1976 MV Agusta motorcycles had won over 3000 races and 63 World Championships overall. After MV Agusta left the racing scene in 1980, Magni began producing his own custom-framed MV motorcycles.

MBK Industrie S.A. is a leading French brand of motor scooters and small motorbikes. The company, most famously known as Motobécane, has been part of the Yamaha Motor Company

MV Agusta Motor became the main brand comprising Cagiva and Husqvarna.[1] The company currently operates under the name MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. but remains under the ownership of Giovanni's sons, Claudio and Gianfranco Castiglioni.

History

In 1978 Cagiva entered the motorcycle business with two racing motorcycles riden by Gianfranco Bonera and Marco Lucchinelli. In the same year they bought a factory in Schiranna, Varese from AMF-Harley Davidson and went into motorcycle production. By 1979 the company reached an annual production of 40,000 motorbikes, with eight models with two-stroke engines ranging from 125 cc to 350 cc.

Many of the Harley-Davidson models were continued in production as Cagivas, and the off-road motorcycle division was improved and expanded, eventually producing their own race-winning WMX series of moto-cross motorcycles.

In 1983 Cagiva also sourced Ducati four stroke v-twin engines from 350 cc to 1000 cc and entered the big displacement market. Cagiva bought Ducati in 1985, but kept the Ducati name that was better recognized outside Italy. Ducati motorcycle production continued in Bologna, while the Varese-built Cagiva Ala Azzurra (sold under the name "Alazzurra") and Elefant were introduced, both featuring Ducati engines.

Cagiva continued with strategic buyouts of Moto Morini in 1985 and Husqvarna in 1987. In 1991 Cagiva also bought the trademarks for the MV Agusta brand

In 1996, Ducati and the Moto Morini name were sold to Texas Pacific Group
In 1999, for strategic purposes, the company got restructured. MV Agusta Motor become the main brand comprising Cagiva and Husqvarna.

In 2008, Harley Davidson bought MV Agusta Motor, the parent company of Cagiva, thereby regaining some control of their old Aermacchi factory.

In October 2009, Harley-Davidson informed that it will put Cagiva on sale.

History

Derbi's origins began with a little bicycle workshop in the village of Mollet near Barcelona, founded in 1922 by Simón Rabasa i Singla The focus remained the repair and hire of bicycles until May 1944 when Singla formed a limited liability company named Bicicletas Rabas with the aim of moving into manufacturing bicycles. The venture proved very successful and in 1946, supported by its profits, work began on a motorised version. More moped than motorcycle, this first model, the 48cc SRS included plunger rear suspension, and a motorcycle type gas tank and exhaust system. The SRS proved so successful it prompted a change in the companies direction, and on November 7, 1950, the company changed its name to the Nacional Motor SA. Just prior to this, at that summers Barcelona Trade Fair, the company unveiled its first real motorcycle, the Derbi 250.

Unlike Ossa, Bultaco, and Montesa, Derbi successfully met the challenges that followed the Spanish transition to democracy and Spain's entry into the European Community. Simeó Rabasa i Signla died in 1988 but the company remained independent until 2001, when it was bought out by the Piaggio group.

Sherco is a French and Spanish motorcycle manufacturer, specialising in off-road motorbikes. Sherco are best known for their extremely popular trials bikes, although they also make enduro and supermoto bikes.

The company was founded in 1998, and currently has two production facilities. A factory in Caldes de Montbui, Spain, some 30 km north of Barcelona is where the company's trials bikes are manufactured. Enduro and supermoto bikes are built at a factory in Nimes, France, close to Italy

History

From the very beginning in 1998, Sherco has proven its entrepreneurial strength in its short industrial life. In less than 10 years, Sherco has become a force to be reckoned with in the trials segment of the market, constantly innovating and bringing new solutions to the table, which have shown they are the ones to follow in this market.

In 2004 Sherco went one step beyond and became the first manufacturer in the world to incorporate a 4-stroke engine in their line, and just like in the 2-stroke engines, it was totally designed and developed by Sherco.

Sherco has seen remarkable success during this period, with highlights such as winning the SSDT and the overall Spanish Indoor Trials Championship. With their solid position in the trials market, in 2002 Sherco started a new endeavor, buying the French manufacturer HRD, who specialized in the production of small mopeds, and manufactured Enduro and Supermotard models, achieving outstanding competitive success in France.

In 2003 yet another step was taken and the 4-stroke CityCorp 125 was introduced. This was a step prior to the introduction of the Enduro line which featured 4-stroke electronic injection engines in 2004, followed by the Supermotard, with 450 and 510cc cylinder sizes.

The present Sherco catalog is very extensive, with six trials models, several versions of small mopeds – both Enduro and Supermotard – and two base Enduro bikes with two equivalent Supermotards. But the Sherco evolution continues. In 2008, the 4-stroke Sherco 3.2 is expected to finally be competitive in the trials market, after some transition years, the competitive success it has seen in 2007 has helped it mature. In the hands of riders such as Christophe Bruand and Dani Oliveras it has achieved wins in prestigious events in France and Spain, and the Sherco rider Graham Jarvis is presently dominating the British Championship on the 3.2.

In 2008 the new Sherco 2.5i Enduro model will be released, and it will also undoubtedly prove to be a formidable competitor in the 250 cc Enduro market.

Factory

Sherco's entry into the enduro market has seen its activities double, not only in technical and human terms, but also physically, with the inauguration of a new factory in Nimes (France), which is dedicated exclusively to this sector of the market.

Each of Sherco's two factories will work independently, with no interference from the other; they will focus exclusively on their own work. They will benefit from the experience gained by the other, and from bulk purchasing, which will be reflected in the quality and price of the motorcycles produced.

CaldeS DE MONTBUI

Sherco Caldes continues to dedicate its activities completely to trials bikes. Located in Caldes de Montbui, some 30 km north of Barcelona. It is no coincidence that its facilities are at the very heart of the world of trials biking. Three of the manufacturers who have dominated trials biking for over a decade are to be found in Catalonia: Bultaco, Montesa and OSSA, they represent the area's extraordinary position in the sport; an area which has also produced some the sport's most illustrious champions. For this reason, the majority of Sherco's external suppliers are also to be found in the surrounding area, among whom we would obviously have to include PXC, Sherco Trial's competition and prototype department, which is based in Torelló (Barcelona).

Sherco Caldes covers an area of 2,500 m2, with a team of twenty employees under the charge of the Production Manager, VÌctor Colomer. Its production capacity is 3,000 units per year, and it currently manufactures a range of models of trials bikes with the following capacities: 50, 125, 200, 250 and 290 cc.

Nimes

In 2001 Sherco bought HRD, a prestigious French firm dedicated exclusively to the production of high-quality enduro bikes, with the aim of expanding its activities in this market. To ensure this new production activity would not interfere with the trials bike divisions already excellent results, a new factory was created, Sherco-HRD, in the town of Nimes in France's southern region of Provence, close to Italy, which is the country that is the principal supplier of materials and components for the enduro bikes.

Directed by Alain Morel, these new facilities cover an area of 2,000 m2, and have a team of 14 employees dedicated exclusively to improving the enduro and supermotard model bikes. The Current offering is for four models in the enduro and supermotard configuration with the following displacements: 50 cc 2-stroke and 125 cc 4-stroke. The estimated production capacity stands at some 2,000 units per year.

KTM Sportmotorcycle AG is an Austrian motorcycle manufacturer. The company was founded in 1934 by engineer Hans Trunkenpolz in Mattighofen. It started out as a metalworking shop and was named Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. In 1954 KTM began producing motorcycles.

KTM is most commonly known for its off road motorcycles though in recent years it has expanded into street motorcycle production.

The company was founded in 1934 by engineer Hans Trunkenpolz in Mattighofen. It started out as a metalworking shop and was named Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. It wasn't until 1953 that KTM began production of motorcycles. With just 20 employees, motorcycles were built at the rate of three per day. In 1955, a businessman Ernst Kronreif became shareholder of the company, on acquiring a sizable portion of the company. It was then renamed Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. Trunkenpolz died unexpectedly in 1989. During these early years of motocycle production at KTM, almost all components for the motorcycles were built in-house by KTM.

Throughout KTM's history, they have been on the leading edge of motorcycle technology. They were the first manufacturer to produce a liquid-cooled four-stroke motorcycle engine for an off road motorcycle[citation needed], a design which has since been replicated by all other manufacturers (KTM even supplied radiators to Suzuki in their early water-cooling days). In 1986, KTM became the first motorcycle manufacturer to include both front and rear disc brakes on an off road motorcycle[citation needed]. In 1998, they offered a linkless rear suspension[citation needed], dramatically reducing the un-sprung weight of the bike (KTM was the first major manufacturer to do so, although ATK, a small market, niche brand did so as early as 1987[citation needed]). They were also the first to offer hydraulic clutch mechanisms on all models of motorcycles[citation needed], and were the first to offer a competition-ready supermoto bike

February 1988: Presentation of the first Husaberg prototype to a selected group of investors, government representatives, and other VIPs. This first prototype is to demonstrate to the important guests that the efforts and financial resources of the last 12 months have not been invested in vain. And indeed, at the first try, the Husaberg comes to life with an awe-inspiring 4-stroke roar. The engine idles evenly, eagerly responding to any throttle action. Applause rings out, there is laughter, cheers and shoulder patting.

Since Thomas Gustavsson still has to get into his motorbike garb for the test ride, the engine is turned off again and when he starts the bike again, the laughter vanishes abruptly from all faces. On the first kick, a big bang marks the end of the prototype's short life, oil-saturated pieces scattered all over at the feet of the spectators.

Later, it turned out that an extremely competition-minded engineer drilled holes into the starter gear in order to save weight - however, apparently assessing the remaining strength of the structure with too much optimism. Two days and a few welding jobs later, the Husaberg engine was running again. But this is another story and only the beginning...

The first public appearance of the Husaberg prototype was at an Enduro race at Skillingaryd in South of Sweden. Thomas Gustavsson, Husaberg's chief developer and mastermind, pushed an unheard of no-name motorcycle to the technical inspection. Only the hand protectors were marked with the letters HMA. HMA stands for Husaberg Motor AB, one out of several proposed names envisaged as possible options for the joint company at that time (these names included MAXAM, HMA and others). Yet, no final decision had been made on what the baby's name should be.

At the technical inspection, the race organizers asked about the brand of the motorcycle, and Gustavsson tried to explain the situation to them. The officials, however, refused to or were unable to understand and gave the pilot two choices: "Either give us a brand name or you won't be allowed to race." Not racing was not an option, so Thomas Gustavsson gave them the name "Husaberg Motor AB", and this is how Husaberg became the official brand name.

Sweden is a country of a long-standing racing tradition. Such a big country with roughly 9 million inhabitants offers ideal conditions: distances are great, roads are few - the necessity of fast, motorized travel is obvious. So it is no wonder that races exist for practically every kind of motorized travel: Motocross, Enduro, Trial, Hill climbing, Speedway, Ice races, Road races - just about everything you can imagine.

Motor racing is just as inseparably linked with Sweden as soccer is with Brazil. Naturally, Husaberg constitutes a part of this great racing tradition. But the significance of motorsports for Husaberg reaches far beyond this tradition. When trying to grasp what the very character of Husaberg is all about, one must try to comprehend the special "Husaberg Racing Fever".

Technical courage is faster then money.
Husaberg was founded by "racing freaks", aspiring to build only pure race bikes. Therefore, it has been clear from the very start that Husaberg would inevitably get involved in racing. On a regional and a national level and also where the world elite competes, at World and European Championships. Yet, the odds at the very outset look rather discouraging: an armada of highly professional and lavishly funded factory teams against a bunch of enthusiastic motor racing aficionados from a cowshed in Sweden.

But money is not the most important fuel in motor racing: the lack of funds was compensated by the courage to rely on technical innovations, and since there was no money to buy expensive superstar riders of the racing scene, the pilots are talented, young and ambitious rookies. The list of famous pilots who rode a Husaberg sounds like a Who-is-Who in Motorsports: Joel Smets, Jimmie Eriksson, Walter Bartolini, Kent Karlsson, Anders Eriksson, Jaroslav Katrinak, Peter Jansson...

The legendary November-Kasan is one of the world's toughest off-road races. The people at Husaberg are proud of every single one of those who go out to participate in this race. After all, each of those courageous enough to start in this race is like a winner to them. A hero! Even if he loses. Champion's trophies are not the most important thing at Husaberg. But racing blood is.

Racing blood cannot be shut down.
Precisely this "Racing Blood" is the key to the nature of Husaberg. Virtually everything that makes Husaberg unique may be explained through that. A real essential point is, that racing blood can't be switched on or off. It either exists or it is missing. Although the bikes are assembled at the mother company KTM now, the uniqueness of a Husaberg still hasn't changed. What has changed by shifting the place of assembly is the access to ISO approved quality control and modern series production systems. Despite this, the racing blood of Husaberg still runs in the racing development department in Sweden.
